3 year old loves it, Mommy thinks it's a little strange

I gave this Sofia doll to my daughter for her 3rd birthday. While it's super cute and along the same quality line as a Barbie doll, I am puzzled by her "hair." Instead of soft Barbie-type hair, Sofa's hair is stringy, crunchy and hard. Not the type of hair that I was expecting. Also, it doesn't look as cute and coiffed as it does in the product ad.
And the hair doesn't completely cover the head in the back. There are some serious bald patches under the top layer. Maybe not a big deal, as it doesn't affect her enjoyment of the doll itself, but I expected something a little nicer for the price.

Doesn't respond to the animal friends!

I am very disappointed, this was the most anticipated toy for my daughter this year, and the Sophia doll doesn't respond to her animal friends as advertised. She also doesn't say 30 phrases, maybe 5. (And no, it is not in try-me mode). It's pretty and the amulet lights up nicely but doesn't work as it should. I wonder if others are having this issue?
